AN INVESTIGATION has been launched into a road rage incident which saw a Virgin Media van driver “almost crash into a couple and scream abuse at them”.
Virgin has confirmed it is investigating the incident following complaints from Southend couple Tony Brown, 39, and his wife Tracey, 44.
The couple were travelling home from the Tesco Extra store, in Prince Avenue, Westcliff, when a van driver “sped right up to the car and kept flashing his lights”.
When at the traffic lights at Bell Junction near to the Toby Carvery, the driver “tried swerving into the car and started shouting and swearing” at the couple.
Now, Virgin Media has launched an investigation into the incident at 7pm on Monday, and the Browns are appealing for any drivers to come forward with dash cam footage or witnesses to get in touch with information.
Mr Brown, of Byrne Drive, said: “It was shocking, and we’ve been left saddened, shaken and angry.
“Tracey was driving at the correct speed limit on the road, which is 40mph, but this seemed to be a problem.
“The van was almost touching the back of our car and beams were constantly flashing.
“Tracey did seem to be in a panic, but I reassured her she was doing nothing wrong.
“When we got to the traffic lights at Bell Junction, the driver was next to us and then suddenly swerved towards our car, which we quickly reacted to by moving away from him.
“His window was down and then started shouting and swearing at us, it was crazy.
“When we got home, we went straight to Virgin Media to make a complaint.
“We were told they were investigating the incident and will keep us updated. One of their drivers almost caused a crash and hollered abuse at us for no reason, and we just hope Virgin Media take action they see fit, and make the driver apologise.”
A Virgin Media spokesperson said it “swiftly responded” to the complaint.
It added: “We never hesitate to take action where any of our employees fall short of the high standards we expect.”
