LAST month, it was announced that a fearsome new drop tower ride taller than Southend’s City Wheel is coming to Adventure Island.
Bosses of the Stockvale Group, which owns the Western Esplanade amusement park and Sealife Adventure, in Marine Parade, say it has cost slightly less than £1million.
The 38metre tall attraction will stand next to the City Wheel, which was installed in December 2022 at a cost in the region of £1million.
This was thanks to a mission to relocate other rides to create space, including Cow Jump and Pharoahs Fury.
It is understood the tower is dual-purpose, meaning it can act as a gentle viewing tower or the fast and frightening drop ride.
Once open, it will offer unrivalled views of Southend and out to the Thames Estuary.
Even though a name is yet to be confirmed, what is certain is it will be taller than the 35metre tall Detonator at Thorpe Park and the 25.6metre Croc Drop at Chessington World of Adventures.
However, it does not beat Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s Ice Blast.
