Drivers are set to face delays as a major south Essex road will be closed overnight close to a secondary school next week.

There will be a road closure on Rayleigh Road from Monday, near its junction with Kingsmere, in Thundersley, close to The Deanes secondary school.

This will be in place from 7pm until 5am for six days - until Saturday, January 13 - while Essex County Council undertakes road stud removal works.

The one.network website shows delays are "likely" while the closures are in place.

Known as "cat's eyes", road studs are usually removed before road surfacing works are undertaken and replaced after works are completed.

These works will start on the same day as a reported closure on the same road from Woodmans Arms to Rayleigh Weir.

Arriva Herts and Essex says bus services will be disrupted while this closure is in place from Monday until Wednesday, from 8pm to 5am.

Route 1 will divert via A13, Sadlers Farm, A130, A1245 and A127.

An Arriva spokesman tweeted: "Unfortunately, we will be unable to serve Thundersley Village (Hart Road) and Rayleigh Weir (Sainsburys)."
