WINDOWS in homes across Southend are set to be transformed into bright and colourful pieces of art as part of a new festival.

Southend Council has revealed plans for the new initiative to turn homes in houses, flats and bungalows into vibrant canvases adorned with captivating art, colours, and lights.

The council has confirmed the “Window Wanderland” project is coming to Southend between March 22 and 24 and is urging residents to get involved and turn their windows into pieces of art.

Derek Jarvis, Conservative councillor responsible for arts, culture, heritage, and leisure, said “our city is our canvas” as he encouraged art lovers across the city to get involved.

He said: “We are thrilled to introduce Southend’s first Window Wanderland.

“This initiative embodies the essence of community spirit, encouraging neighbourhoods to come together, celebrate creativity, and brighten our city’s street.

“It is an opportunity for everyone to participate, connect, and revel in the artistic expressions that will hopefully adorn many windows across the city.

“While decorating windows is an integral part of Window Wanderland, the essence lies in exploring our city together.

“We encourage everyone to venture out, wander the streets, and witness the creative displays by our residents.”

The event invites participation from everyone from individual residents, to shops, to offices.

Participants are encouraged to unleash their imagination, illuminating their windows with unique displays during the festival, transforming ordinary spaces into extraordinary showcases.

A spokesman for Southend Council adds: “Simple materials such as tissue paper, tracing paper, fabrics, or paints and pens can be used to create displays.

“From intricate designs to playful silhouettes cut from black paper or even colourful arrangements of clothing, the possibilities for creativity are endless.

“As the event approaches, we will share tips, ideas, and inspiration from previous Window Wanderland celebrations worldwide.”

Residents will need to sign up to be a part of the event, as for the event participating properties will be highlighted on a map so visitors can embark on a unique walking tour of Southend.
