A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital following a crash on a busy south Essex road.
The East of England Air Ambulance was called to West Mayne, in Laindon, just before 3.15pm today in response to the incident.
Essex Police says it was reported a van and car were involved in the crash.
The driver of the car, a woman in her 80s, was airlifted to The Royal London Hospital, in Whitechapel Road, by an Essex and Herts Air Ambulance.
Police have described the woman's injuries as non-life threatening. No arrests were made.
According to AA Traffic News, a section of the road near to the Toomey Vauxhall car dealership is closed and with cars passing slowly.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called just before 3.15pm with reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on West Mayne, in Basildon.
“An ambulance, an ambulance officer vehicle, a response car from BASICS Essex (British Association for Immediate Care) and the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance were sent to the scene.
“An adult woman was airlifted to The Royal London Hospital for treatment.”
