The new D2 Lounge opened at the end of November, following a refurbishment by Southend-based company D2 Design and Build.

New photos show inside the new lounge, which has been enjoyed by fans over the last few weeks.

Dan Allen, the director of D2 Design and Build, said: “Being in the industry we are, we specialise in hospitality designs and fitouts.

“Originally, we wanted to support the club in any way we could. Then the commercial team came along with this opportunity and it was a no brainer.

“It was a way we could help out whilst getting the brand out there at the same time.

“We do work all over the UK and it was nice to give something back to our community.

“We do a lot of grassroots sponsorship but to get in with a big club like Southend that’s dear to our hearts is great.”

The new D2 Lounge allows fans to enjoy a “luxury matchday experience which unrivalled views of the pitch”.

This includes a meal, a welcome drink, designated parking, a matchday programme, a TV showing TNT Sports, as well as a selection of beer, traditional ales and wine.

Terry Edwards, 52, a lifelong Southend United fan, hopes this is just the start.

He said: “I think the new lounge is great.

“I think it shows how the takeover is going to be excellent for Southend United. I have never fancied hospitality before, but I’m definitely interested in this.

“I’m really hoping the rest of the ground will follow and can get some attention now because the way the ground has been left is disgraceful.

“The club needs to make the match day experience more pleasurable for everyone.”

Southend fan, David Matthew, 68, added: “It is good to see investment at Roots Hall, it shows there is some confidence in the future.

“I would like to see full confirmation of the takeover too, and then I appreciate it will take time, but some longer-term planning for the development on and off the pitch. Nonetheless, this is great news after the years of nothing.”
