The new tenant moving in to Rayleigh High Street’s former Superdrug shop has been confirmed.

The large space, which is home to the New Body Gym on the upper floor, said goodbye to the health and beauty retailer on August 26.

Now, Mike Gray, of Estate Agent Dedman Gray, has confirmed to the Echo that children’s charity Barnardo’s is moving in.

Mr Gray said it has the keys and are hoping to open by February.

He added: “It’s Barnardo’s.

“The vacant shop was only on the market for just over a month or so with a reasonable amount of interest.

“It’s been arranged for Barnardo’s to take occupation and trade from there.

“The deal has been completed and got the keys in the last few days.

“We believe it’s their intention to open by February.

“This really does show Rayleigh High Street is proving quite popular.”

It was also added that Barnardo’s’ yearly rent for the property is “close to £70,000”.

The charity, which supports and protects children and young people, also has a charity shop in unit three, Saxon Court, Rawreth Lane.

It is open 9am to 5pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.
