NEW measures to make swimming pools in Castle Point more accessible are set to be carried out following a major investment.

Thanks to an £80,000 investment from the council, Waterside Farm Leisure Centre, in Somnes Avenue, Canvey, and Runnymede Leisure Centre, in Kiln Road, Benfleet, will be getting Pool Pods.

In April, the pool lifts will provide people a more “dignified and independent way” for them to access the pools.

These lifts operate quietly and discreetly, without having to have assistance from centre staff.

Dave Blackwell, Canvey Independent Party council leader, said: “We're committed to ensuring everyone in our community has equal access to leisure facilities, and this investment in new Pool Pods is a major step in the right direction.

“By removing barriers and providing comfortable, independent access, we hope to encourage more people to enjoy the many health and wellbeing benefits of swimming."

A spokesman for Castle Point Council added: “We'll be unveiling the new Pool Pods at Waterside Farm and Runnymede Leisure Centres in April.

“Stay tuned for more updates and information on how you can experience this exciting new addition to our pool facilities.

“Together, we can make our swimming pools even more inclusive and welcoming for everyone in our community.”
