A TRENDY pizzeria in Leigh specialising in handmade pizzas has closed suddenly just two years after opening.
Pizza Pizza on the Broadway - which opened in late 2021 - has now been listed as “closed permanently” online and a notice has been posted in the window confirming the closure.
It is unclear at this stage why the business has closed, but a note on the door of the restaurant said: “Pizza Pizza is now permanently closed.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused to any last-minute booking cancellations.
“Thank you for your custom and support over the past few years.”
Beth Anne, 29, a Leigh resident, was a big fan of the pizzeria claiming it sold “the best pizza in the area”.
She added: “I absolutely loved Pizza Pizza, I am so sad to see it go, it had such a great atmosphere.
“I mainly went there for the wine. Their selection was incredible and not over priced, it also served most definitely the best pizza in town.”
The restaurant was also known for its pistachio tiramisu, a twist on the Italian classic which was unique to Pizza Pizza and brought in last year.
Residents on Facebook expressed sadness of the loss of the restaurant. One resident said: “It’s really sad to see them go, their pistachio tiramisu was heaven.”
Leigh Green councillor, Richard Longstaff, added: “It is sad to hear that a business is closing but also in recent years, there is a lot of competition in the food and hospitality sector on the Broadway and I’ve said before that perhaps the competition is too much.
“We are in a cost of living crisis and the first thing that people cut back on is those privileges, like eating out.
“It is the first thing to be cut from budgets and it is a real shame.
We all want a variety of shops on the Broadway, and I am fully in support of small businesses, I am always shopping and found in the Broadway.
“It’s unfortunate to hear of anything closing but behind it there is a story, and it would have caused real heartache and stress, so we ask people to support independent businesses.”
