A south Essex train firm has issued an update as a signalling fault caused cancellations and delays across the network.
Train services running across the whole c2c network were cancelled, delayed or revised this evening rush hour due to a fault with the signalling system between Pitsea and Benfleet.
Stations have reportedly been packed with commuters affected by delays including in Laindon and Leigh.
Ticket acceptance is arranged with Elizabeth Line and Greater Anglia. Replacement buses have also been running between the affected service areas.
Shuttle train services are in place between Shoebury and Leigh.
First Bus had been accepting tickets on all reasonable routes from Basildon to Leigh and Stanford-le-Hope to Leigh.
The line has now re-opened.
In an update, a c2c spokesman said: "Network Rail have worked hard to rectify the issue and services will begin to run at these stations.
"Delays, alterations or cancellations are expected while we work to recover normal service running."
This disruption is expected until 10pm.
The spokesman added: "We sincerely apologies for the disruption this evening. If your journey has been delayed by 15 minutes or more, you can claim compensation through our delay repay scheme."
