A BASILDON football memorabilia entrepreneur was left disappointed after failing to score any investments on Dragons’ Den.
PE teacher Billy Childs, 27, appeared on the hit BBC show last night where he tried to strike it lucky with the tycoons, as well as former pundit and Manchester United guest star Gary Neville.
He pitched his business BC Boots, which sells authentic, match used items, including boots and shirts, of which are sourced through a “network of contacts, agents of players and relatives of professional players”.
Even though Gary was impressed with the idea and “something he would want to invest in”, he declined due to the idea of profiting off items gifted by players.
He told Billy: "There isn't a single football player that I know that ever gives their boots, gloves and shirt away to be profited from.
"Certainly, the modern player, they ordinarily would give those away to auction for charity or they would give them away as a gift to a member of the community or a fan.
"Football players wouldn't like the idea of their property that was gifted to someone being profited from."
The 27-year-old was open to change where he responded: “I’m open to giving a percentage to a charity”.
Joining Gary in being out included the other five investors – Deborah Meaden, Sara Davies, Steven Bartlett, Peter Jones and Touker Suleyman.
However, Gary did invite Billy to come and see him as he knows a lot of footballers in the 70s and 80s who sell football memorabilia through auctions, and they might want to go through him instead.
Dragons' Den continues next Thursday on BBC One and iPlayer.
