LOYAL customers have been left devastated after a much-loved Chinese restaurant announced it will close its doors for good after 21 years of business.
Champagne Restaurant, based in London Road, Westcliff, has posted an “important notice” outside of the restaurant confirming the sad news.
Bosses say Champagne Restaurant will be “permanently closing down” after Mother’s Day, on March 10, 2024.
Southend resident, Angela James, 55, said: “I have been going there since they opened. I have celebrated many birthdays at the restaurant, and my daughter had her 30th there too.
“We even had our wedding rehearsal dinner in there in 2011. My children both learnt how to use chopsticks there too.
“We have become very close to the owners, and it is such a shame. We love the food too.
“When you find a restaurant that you like, you don’t go anywhere else. So, we will miss this restaurant but hopefully we can stay in touch with the staff.”
The Chinese restaurant, which is understood to have opened back in 2003, has a four out of five rating from customers on Trip Advisor, and an even better 4.5 out of five rating on Facebook.
Announcing the plan to close, the restaurant owners sent a heartfelt thank you to residents for their continued support.
Southend resident, Cindy Taylor, said: “I love Champagne Restaurant. It is the best Chinese in Southend.
“I started going there about 15 years ago and now I won’t go anywhere else as they are the best.
“Nothing was ever too much trouble, they are always polite, friendly, and helpful. The food was the best too.
“It will be such a shame to see it go.”
Theresa Wilson, from Hawkwell, added: “They are such a lovely the family, and they always made you feel welcome.
“The food is always amazing and great value too.
“We have been going here for 19 years so for us they will be greatly missed by all of our family.
“We will be going there before they close to wish them all the best for the future and to enjoy the amazing food one last time.”
