A motorcyclist was rushed to hospital with serious injuries after a rush-hour crash in a major south Essex road.

Police shut off London Road (A129) in Rayleigh yesterday after a crash involving a motorbike and a van, close to Louis Drive East.

Paramedics and firefighters were also called to the scene, as the road was shut for around two hours.

The motorcyclist was sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Southend Hospital. His injuries are not deemed to be life-threatening.

An Essex Police spokesman said: "We were called to London Road in Rayleigh at around 5.20pm on Monday, February 12 following reports of a collision involving a motorbike and a van. The collision occurred close to the junction of Louis Drive East. 

"The motorcyclist was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not deemed to be life-threatening. 

"The road was partially closed for around two hours."

An East of England Ambulance service spokesman added: "One ambulance was sent to the junction of London Road, Louis Drive East, Rayleigh, yesterday evening following reports that a motorcyclist had been injured in a road traffic collision.

"One man was transported to Southend Hospital for further assessment and care."
