Three teenagers have been arrested after a man was robbed at knifepoint and chased in Southend High Street.

Police were called to Southend High Street at around 4.40pm yesterday following reports of a knifepoint robbery.

The victim was approached by three people who threatened him with a knife before stealing his designer coat and bag.

The victim was then chased by the group, who continued to threaten him with a knife.

Following fast-paced CCTV enquiries, police arrested three people on suspicion of robbery within twenty minutes of the incident.

Two 16-year-old boys have been arrested on suspicion of robbery.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of harassment and assault without injury.

They remain in custody.

Acting Chief Inspector Daniel Barnes said: “Our officers responded quickly and we were able to have three people on the way to custody within twenty minutes of the report.

“We understand that this is concerning and there has been a lot of attention around luxury item muggings recently, particularly the robbery of designer coats.

“We will always aim to respond quickly and investigate thoroughly and no one should feel at risk by wearing the clothing they want to.”
