A DISRUPTION warning has been issued to drivers as work is set to start for major changes at a notorious A127 junction.

Alterations to the Kent Elms junction will be trialled in coming months and the three-lane merge system will be adapted so the left-hand becomes “left-turn” only, after plans were unanimously approved by councillors last month.

These changes come after councillors had raised concerns over frequent near misses since the the junction was widened to create an additional lane on both sides of the dual carriageway in 2017.

Now, the Southend-bound carriageway into Bridgwater Drive will be shut as work starts on Monday. The three-lane merge system will be adapted so the left-hand becomes “left-turn” only.

Roadworks website one.network warns delays are "possible" while the works take place next week.

Paul Collins, Liberal Democrat councillor for Eastwood Park, said the works are scheduled "only from 9am each day" and are expected to be finished by Friday.

In response to councillors' requests, the lines into Rayleigh Road, past Snakes Lane, will all be repainted and renewed.

The diversion route will be via the A127 Prince Avenue Southend-bound to Tesco Roundabout and the A127 Prince Avenue London-bound to Bridgwater Drive.
