Coastguard rescue teams launched a search along Southend seafront after reports of a missing boat with a 70-year-old man on board.
The coastguard in Southend was launched at about 4pm on Sunday to support the emergency service on Canvey after reports of an "overdue vessel" from Smallgains Marina with the pensioner on board.
Two rescue teams carried out searches along the seafront between Shoebury and Leigh, with the pier and seafront CCTV office called to ascertain if a boat matching the same description had been seen near Southend Pier.
A vessel matching the description was seen heading back towards the location of the Two Tree area, where the team immediately noticed the boat on anchor in the Two Tree channel.
Sirens and lights were used to get the attention of the owner onboard, who confirmed it was indeed the missing vessel and they were all fine and in no need of further assistance.
They informed the coastguard they were planning to lay on anchor until the next tide before continuing their journey to Smallgains.
A spokesman for the coastguard in Southend said: "Should you see anyone in trouble on or near the coast, don’t hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the coastguard, you could save someone’s life."
