A “THRIVING” restaurant and bar in the heart of Southend has been listed on the market for £295,000.

The lease of the Brickhouse restaurant, in London Road, Southend, has been listed on Rightmove by online estate agents Intelligent Business Partners.

Brickhouse opened back in August 2022, replacing a much-loved American-style restaurant Mangetout.

The exceptionally popular Mangetout closed in July 2022, after the owners chose to retire following 16 years of success serving the city.

Mangetout was initially based in Chichester Road before moving to Tylers Avenue – the former home of Churchill’s nightclub – to cope with increasing demand.

It then moved to London Road, close to the top of the High Street, to become part of the “restaurant strip of Southend”.

According to the advert, the restaurant is thriving.

It states: “This is a rare and fantastic opportunity to purchase a popular, thriving restaurant and bar business in the heart of Southend.

“Renowned in the city for providing high-quality American influenced cuisine, best-in-class cocktails and a trendy, relaxed atmosphere, this well-appointed site operates over two floors and attracts heavy regular footfall as well as a vast number of tourist visitors to Southend.

“The ground floor supports the main restaurant space, offering booth seating and a modern, fast-paced casual dining space.

“The upper floor lounge and games bar comprises multiple entertainment offerings, including pool tables, shuffleboard, and much more.

“This profitable business boasts a spacious interior, in a great location, with outstanding reviews and multiple avenues for further profit increase.”

Mangetout shocked the community with its closure, and at the time of opening new management at Brickhouse aimed to become Southend’s “new home of burgers, ribs, chicken, and cocktails”.

Matt Dent, Labour councillor responsible for Kursaal ward, said: “It is absolutely something Southend needs to keep in its city. It is a thriving business and has been a really good addition to Southend. I think it is a really good opportunity for someone to invest in.

“I very much hope it stays as Brickhouse going forward as it is fantastic for the city.”
