A MAJOR road has re-opened after a four-hour closure due to loose horses running the wrong side of the A13.
Essex Police has provided an update after the A13 between Sadlers Farm roundabout and Pitsea was closed.
Officers were called at around 2:30am following reports of loose horses on the road.
The horses were then reported to be running down the wrong side of the A13.
As a result, the A13 Londonbound was closed until around 7:30am this morning causing severe delays.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: "We were called to London Road, close to Saddlers Farm at around 2:30am this morning following reports of loose horses on the road.
"The horses were then reported to be running down the wrong side of the A13.
"The road was partially closed for a number of hours whilst officers worked with partner agencies to ensure the safety of the horses and road users.
"By 6:45am, the horses were safely caught and the traffic was relieved by 7am."
