ESSEX Police has issued an update after a teenager was stabbed and left with serious injuries after an attack on Southend seafront.

Officers were called to Western Esplanade at around 3pm on Thursday afternoon following reports of a man being located injured.

The victim, a 17-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Essex Police has since confirmed the 17-year-old boy remains in hospital with serious injuries and that he did suffer stab wounds.

Officers also confirmed a knife was later found nearby and seized in connection with the incident.

No arrests have been made at this stage, but police insist they believe it to be an isolated incident.

Det Insp Steve Franklin said: “We are working quickly to investigate this assault.

“No arrests have been made at this stage, but our officers have seized a weapon we believe to be connected.

“Residents will continue to notice an increased police presence whilst we continue enquiries.

“I can assure the public that we believe this to be an isolated incident.”

Essex Police are still urging any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman added: “Officers from our Criminal Investigation Department are appealing for the public’s help.

“We are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything or have any further information to contact us.

“Please quote incident number 600 of February 29 when providing information.”
