A HOMELESS man was Tasered by police after threatening to kill his own daughter when she took pity on him and offered to put him up so he didn’t have to sleep rough.
Terry Brown, of Ditton Court Road, Westcliff, armed himself with knives and threatened his daughter after spending several hours drinking, Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard.
The court was told Brown had been homeless but had been staying with his daughter at the time of the incident.
When police arrived, Brown allegedly refused to put the knives down and was Tasered by officers.
He was arrested and has been in custody since.
On Friday, after initially denying criminal damage and common assault, he changed his plea to guilty.
Giving evidence in court, Brown’s daughter said: “He has a bad alcohol and drug problem, and he would become erratic when he drinks and takes drugs.”
On the day of the incident, January 9, Brown came into his daughter’s house and sat on the sofa, drinking alcohol for several hours.
Brown started muttering incoherent sentences, and when his daughter asked him what he was saying, he said: “You had better call for help – you’re not safe.”
Lorraine Webb, prosecuting, said: “She went to her bedroom to call the police. Brown then demanded who she was on the phone to and demanded she give her keys to him.”
Brown is then alleged to have said: “You are not safe, you are not part of my team, you are a snake, and I’m going to kill you.”
The court heard Brown then emptied the knife block in his daughter’s kitchen, taking the knives to the living room.
Miss Nurse, mitigating, said: “This defendant has already spent seven weeks inside. He has emotional instability disorder, agoraphobia, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
“His brain was imagining voices at the time of the offence. Prior to this incident, he has had some work with probation.”
Brown was denied bail and will be sentenced on March 20.
