A man has been charged on six counts by officers investigating a series of burglaries in Hadleigh.

Detectives from Castle Point and Rochford Criminal Investigation Department have been investigating break-ins and attempted break-ins at homes on Thursday and Friday.

A 29-year-old man was arrested by plain clothed officers carrying out targeted patrols on Saturday.

Daniel Cardwell, 28, of London Road, Hadleigh, has now been charged with two counts of burglary, two counts of attempted burglary, one count of going equipped, and one count of possession of a knife or sharp pointed article in a public place.

He is due to appear at Southend Magistrates’ Court today.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We know the impact burglary has on those affected.

“In the last year there have been 2,400 fewer home burglaries than five years ago, a fall of 40 percent.

“In 2023, we made more than 1,000 burglary arrests.”

Officers from Rochford and Castle Point carried out proactive hotspot patrols in Hadleigh last week.
