“Huge” potholes on south Essex roads are set to be repaired overnight next week, the MP for Castle Point has announced.

Following concerns from “a number of residents”, MP Rebecca Harris has said “huge potholes” on Canvey Way and the bridge at Ferry Road, Benfleet, will be fixed by Essex Highways next Thursday.

She said: “I have passed on residents’ concerns to Essex County Council, who have told me today that permanent repairs are scheduled to take place throughout the night on March 14.

“Essex Highways is unsure yet whether this will require a full road closure or a lane-by-lane closure but expect delays and possible diversion along Canvey Way if you are planning to travel that night.

“This is key road route for our borough, and I understand Essex County Councillors Peter May and Andrew Sheldon have been pressing hard to get these works to happen as soon as possible.

“I am sure we are all looking forward to far smoother journeys on and off the island once they are done.”

Essex Highways has confirmed multi-way traffic lights will be in force at Ferry Road by the bridge from March 12 to 14 while pothole repairs are carried out.
