A CYCLE route from Shoebury to the Southend seafront has been closed for four weeks. 

According to a public notice by Southend Council, there is the temporary prohibition of cyclists on the seafront cycle route. 

This is from Shoebury Common Road to Eastern Esplanade. 

The notice states that the council and its contractors will be carrying out essential resurfacing and lining works on the seafront cycle route. 

As a result will need to prohibit cyclists from using the route. 

The order has come into effect today and is in place for four weeks. 

There will be access for emergency vehicles and vehicles being used in connection with the works. 

A diversion route has been put in place which is "via the carriageway on Shoebury Common Road, Thorpe Esplanade, and Eastern Esplanade and visa versa." 

The notice adds anyone breaking the restrictions imposed may be issued with a penalty charge notice.
