A DOG is "keeping police company" after being found running loose on the A127 in south Essex.
Officers from Basildon were deployed by the Essex Police force control room to the major road near Benfleet earlier today after a member of the public caught a loose dog in the road.
The dog is now keeping officers company in Basildon police station while they wait for the dog warden to collect.
An Essex Police spokesman said: "Officer from Essex Police Basildon were deployed by us to the A127 near Benfleet earlier today after a member of the public caught a loose dog running on the main road.
