Police have launched an appeal for information as a driver disappeared after an early hours crash in Rayleigh today.
Officers were out in the Rochford district in the early hours this morning, focusing on vehicles and making checks to ensure they were within the control of the right person.
The policing team were soon made aware of a white mini cooper, which had crashed in Leslie Road, Rayleigh, at 3.02am. The driver had promptly left the scene.
Due to policing activities, units were able to promptly attend.
However, despite this and additional support from police dogs, officers were unable to find the person driving.
An Essex Police spokesman commented: "We are keen to hear from anyone who may have information that may help our enquiries, and you can tell us what you have seen or heard via esxpol.uk/Zkuix.
"Alternatively, if you would like to make an anonymous report you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers, by visiting their website or by calling 0800 555 111.
