A BETTING firm hoping to replace a former charity shop is among five new public notices in south Essex.

Betfred applied to Basildon Council for a betting premises licence at the Sue Ryder store in 17-18 The Willows Shopping Centre, Wickford.

The Echo understands Betfred is set to move from its Station Avenue unit to the High Street store as it better suits their "business floorspace and layout requirements".


A new Southend city centre pizza restaurant set to open has applied to sell alcohol.

The Camurria, a new pizzeria set to open at 38 Queen’s Road, opposite the University of Essex’s Southend campus, has made an application to Southend Council for a new premises licence.

The business proposes to sell alcohol for consumption in the restaurant from 12pm to 10pm, Monday to Sunday.

The application is open to feedback until March 24.


A road in Eastwood is set to shut this month while cabling works are carried out.

Green Lane will bed shut off to drivers from its junction with Wren Avenue to outside 9 Green Lane.

Motorists will also be unable to park, wait, stop, load or unload in this section of the road while the BT cabling works take place.

The closure is scheduled to be in place from 9am to 3.30pm on March 19.

The alternative route will be via Green Lane and Wren Avenue and vice versa.

Access for emergency vehicles, residents and pedestrians will be maintained during the closure.


A busy Westcliff road will also shut next week from its junction with the A13 while water works are carried out.

Milton Road will be closed from its junction with London Road to its junction with St Johns Road.

The closure will be in place from 8am on Monday until 5pm on Wednesday, while Essex and Suffolk Water undertakes new connection works.

The alternative route will be via London Road, Hamlet Court Road, Station Road and Westcliff Avenue.


Proposals for phase two of a new homes development on the site of a former 100-year-old convent have been unveiled.

A planning application has been submitted for phase two of the development at Walsingham House, in Lionel Road, Cavney, to provide 20 new houses and 13 flats.

The application can be viewed on the council's website at www.castlepoint.gov.uk.
