AMENDED plans to redevelop an iconic Westcliff pub into new flats has been submitted.
The Cliff, in Hamlet Road, has been a staple of the city and serving those in the LGBTQ+ community for more than 50 years.
Now amended proposals have been lodged with Southend Council for a change of use, creating three flats and a house.
Initial plans submitted last summer were refused by the council.
Planners said the two storey extension would create an “oppressive sense of enclosure”.
At the time bosses at the Cliff declined to provide details of the plans, including a timescale.
The plans had sparked fears the venue could close at some point.
However, applications for planning applications do not mean the proposal will ultimately be carried out.
Under the new plans the ground floor would be changed from a pub into two flats.
A two-storey extension would be built and the existing manager’s flat would be turned into a home.
Southend Council will have the final say on the plans.
