A BOY was rushed to hospital after suffering serious head injuries in an e-bike horror crash on Mother's Day.

Essex Police officers and paramedics were called into action shortly after 9am on Sunday following reports of a serious smash in High Road, Benfleet.

Upon arrival, the emergency service  found a badly injured youngster who is believed to have been an electric bike before crashing.

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service, said: “An ambulance was sent to reports a person on an e-bike had suffered a head injury after a collision in High Road, Benfleet around 9am.

"No other vehicles are believed to be involved. The patient was conveyed to Basildon Hospital.”

Jacqui Thornton, councillor for Castle Point St James, has been left shocked by the new of the crash.

She said: “It’s an awful day and since I saw the reports of the crash I have felt pins in my stomach.

“This is a horrible day and for this to happen on Mother’s Day is just so upsetting.

“My thoughts go out to the family and friends of the boy and I wish for his wellness and I hope he makes a full recovery.

“My thoughts do go out to everyone involved and we all wish for his recovery as soon as possible.”

Castle Point MP, Rebecca Harris, meanwhile, added: “My thoughts and prayers are with the young man and their family who have had this awful news on Mother’s Day.”

As a result of the incident police officers closed the road in both directions, causing causing severe congestion and delays to the junction with Vicarage Hill.

The force remained at the scene throughout the day.

A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are currently on the scene of a collision in High Road, Benfleet.

“Officers were called at around 9:12am on Sunday following reports of a boy sustaining injuries.

"It's believed the boy was riding a bike prior to sustaining his injuries.

“Officers do not believe that any other vehicle was involved. The boy has been taken to hospital with serious injuries.”
