A CHILD has been left in a serious condition after being hit by a car in south Essex.
Emergency services were called to Beauchamps Drive, in Wickford, at around 3pm yesterday afternoon.
This was following reports of a crash involving a car and a child.
The child, who is believed to be a teenage boy, has been taken to Basildon Hospital in a serious condition.
A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called just before 3pm on Wednesday with reports of a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on Beauchamps Drive in Wickford.
“An ambulance, a rapid response vehicle, an ambulance officer vehicle and a BASICS vehicle were sent to the scene.
“One patient, a teenage boy, was transported to Basildon University Hospital for further treatment.”
Essex Police confirmed the car and driver remained at the scene following the crash.
Officers are now urging witnesses to come forward.
A spokesman added: “Officers were called to Beauchamps Drive in Wickford at 3pm yesterday (Wednesday, 20 March) to reports of a collision involving a car and a child.
“The child was taken to hospital in a serious condition.
“Our enquiries into this incident are ongoing.
“Anyone with any information, or footage, which could assist our investigation is asked to come forward.
“Please quote incident 0660 of 20 March.”
