AN ABANDONED nightclub that has stood empty for more than five years could reopen as a bowling alley.
Evoke had been one of Chelmsford’s biggest nightclubs before it closed in November 2018.
Evoke, which is located in Market Road, Chelmsford, was opened by businessman Steve Webb in 2012, who oversaw the £2.5 million refurbishment of the former Chancellor Hall.
But now there are plans to reopen the city centre landmark by altering the first and second floors from a nightclub to a bowling alley and “family entertainment centre”.
According to plans submitted to Chelmsford City Council there will be six bowling lanes on both the first and second floors.
The first floor will also have various arcade machines. There will be pool tables, darts areas, and tables for food on both floors.
The investment according to submissions to the council aims to bring “a new lease of life to this former nightclub by transforming it into a family-friendly social hub of entertainment”.
It adds: “Approval of this application would see the rejuvenation of this disused nightclub to a thriving family-friendly entertainment community with due attention given to all planning requirements.
“The property is an ideal fit for this type of business and under all planning considerations it is deduced that the proposal would provide betterment to the existing situation.”
