FROM drink and drug drivers to people failing to hand information to police, here are 20 residents or visitors in south Essex sentenced at magistrates' courts this month.

A DRINK driver who assaulted a police officer has been banned from the roads for more than a year.

Julie Baker was caught behind the wheel in Runwell Road, Runwell, with 89 microgames of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath on January 11, Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard.

The limit is 35.

Baker, 55, of Salesbury Drive, Billericay, had also assaulted a police officer by beating him.

She was banned from driving for one year and 10 months. She was also ordered to pay £100 compensation for the assault.

A DRUG driver caught above the limit for cocaine has been banned from the roads for three years.

Sergio Grigoriu, of Sixth Avenue, Canvey, was driving a Vauxhall Corsa in Hunwicke Road, Colchester, on October 13 when he was found with 39 micrograms of the Class A drug per litre of blood in his system. The limit is 10.

The 23-year-old admitted the offence at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on March 5.

He has now been banned from driving for three years.

Grigoriu was also handed a conditional discharge of one year. This means if he commits another crime during this period, he can be sentenced for this offence.

A MAN has been banned from the roads after failing to hand evidence over to a police boss.

Eric Ling, 47, failed to give information to the chief officer of police for Essex in Billericay relating to the driver of a Skoda Fabia who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on December 9, 2022.

He admitted the offence at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 7.

Ling, of Water Vole Close, Stowmarket, has now been fined £660 and banned from driving for six months. He must pay victim services £264 and costs of £110.

A MAN has been ordered to pay more than £1,800 in a fine and costs after failing to hand over evidence to police.

Jason Twum-Barimah failed to give information to the chief officer of Essex Police in Billericay on February 21 last year, relating to the driver of Nissan Qashqai who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

The offence was proved in the 41-year-old’s absence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, March 7.

Twum-Barimah, of Hanbury Drive, Enfield, has now been fined £900, ordered to pay prosecution costs of £620 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £360.

His driving record was also endorsed with six penalty points.

 

 

 

A WOMAN who did not give evidence over to police has avoided a roads ban.

Ebru Toraman failed to give information to Essex Police in Billericay relating to the identification of a Volkswagen Golf driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on October 17, 2022.

Toraman, of Barkham Road, Tottenham, was convicted on June 9 last year and appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on March 7 where she was fined £246.

The 36-year-old avoided a driving ban due to exceptional hardship.

She must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £98 and costs of £110.

Her driving record was endorsed with six points.

A MAN who failed to hand evidence to Essex Police has been banned from driving for half a year.

Lloyd Osei-Asibey, 33, failed to give information to police in Billericay on January 3 last year, relating the driver of a Fiat Fiorino who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

He was convicted on July 14 and was banned from driving for six months at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on March 7. Osei-Asibey, of Talwin Street, Bromley-by-Bow, has also been fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £264 and costs of £110.

A MAN who did not hand evidence to police relating to a suspect has been fined more than £600.

David Samules failed to provide information to the chief officer of police for Essex in Billericay relating to the driver of a Volkswagen who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

The 52-year-old was convicted on June 7, and ordered to pay a fine of £660 at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on March 7. Samules, of Terrace Common Road, Waltham Abbey, must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £264 and costs of £110.

His driving record was also endorsed with six points.

A WOMAN who failed to hand evidence to a police boss has been fined more than £600.

Sarah Ismail, of Shelley Square, Southend, failed to hand evidence to the chief officer of police for South Wales on August 7 relating to the driver of a BMW X1 who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Cardiff Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

The 22-year-old has now been fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £264 and costs of £90.

Her driving record was endorsed with six points following her conviction for the offence.

A SPEEDING driver caught above a 20 miles per hour limit on a main road has been hit with a fine.

Kelvin Fenton, 32, of Victoria Avenue, Southend, was driving a Ford Mondeo on the A1203 in Aldgate on August 28 when he was found doing 26 miles per hour. The limit is 20.

He admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Monday and was fined £100 at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court. Fenton must pay a victim services surcharge of £40 and costs of £90.

His driving record was endorsed with three points.

A SPEEDING driver caught six miles per hour above the limit has been handed a fine.

Malcom James, of Totman Crescent, Rayleigh, was driving a Toyota Prius on the A406 in Cricklewood on September 4 when he was caught doing 46 miles per hour. The limit is 40.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court last Monday.

The 43-year-old has now been ordered to pay a fine of £220 and costs of £90.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88.

His driving record was endorsed with three points.

A SPEEDING driver caught seven miles per hour above the limit has been fined more than £200.

Jonathan Marra, of London Road, Westcliff, was driving a Smart Forfour in the A40 when he was caught doing 37mph on September 6.

The limit on that stretch of road in Shepherds Bush, London, is 30mph.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates’ Court last Thursday.

The 22-year-old has now been handed a fine of £220, a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and costs of £110.

His driving record has also been endorsed with three penalty points.

A MAN who kept an unlicensed vehicle has been ordered to pay almost £200.

Ionut-Gabriel Popa, of Waldegrave, Basildon, was found to be keeping an unlicensed vehicle on April 22.

The previous licence expired on March 12, and the annual rate of duty was £320, Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard.

The 32-year-old was found guilty on March 7. He has now been ordered to pay an excise penalty of £146 and vehicle excise back duty of £50.84.

Popa has also been told to pay costs of £90.

A FARE dodger caught without a valid ticket has been fined more than £200.

Diauk Charlie, of Coleman Street, Southend, was at East Croydon on September 28 when he was found without the valid £12.80 train ticket.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Barkingside Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.

The 22-year-old has now been ordered to pay a fine of £220 and compensation of £12.80.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88 and prosecution costs of £150.

A WOMAN caught driving without insurance has avoided a road ban.

Celeste Farelo, of High Street, Billericay, was found driving in Noak Hill Road on October 20, 2022, without insurance covering her Ford Focus.

The 47-year-old admitted the offence on September 26.

She appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on March 7, where she avoided a driving ban as the court heard she would lose one of her jobs. She was warned she will not be able to use this excuse again.

Farelo has been fined £346, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £138 and costs of £110.

Her driving record was also endorsed with six points.

A SPEEDING driver caught above the limit in a 20mph stretch of road has been fined more than £150.

Thomas Ward, of Yardeley, Laindon, was driving a Fiat Doblo in Finchley Road, Camden, when he was recorded going at 26 miles per hour on September 4. The limit is 20.

The 64-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court last Tuesday.

He has now been fined £153, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £61 and costs of £100.

His driving record has also been endorsed with three points. 

A SPEEDING driver caught 16 miles per hour above the limit on a major crossing has been handed a fine.

Toby Jones, was driving a Mercedes A200 on the Dartford Crossing in Grays when he was found doing 66 miles per hour. The limit is 50.

Jones, of Arbourvale, St Leonard’s, admitted the offence at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on March 7.

The 29-year-old has now been fined £384 and ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £154.

He must also pay costs of £110.

His driving record has been endorsed with four penalty points.

A MAN has been fined more than £600 after he did not hand evidence over to Essex Police.

Karamjit Panesar failed to give information to the chief officer of Essex Police in Billericay relating to the identification of a Ford Transit driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on August 1.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure and the 37-year-old was handed a fine of £660 at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on March 1.

Panesar, of Endsleigh Gardens, Ilford, was also ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £264.

His driving record was endorsed with six points.

A MAN who breached a community order by walking off his unpaid work site has been handed a fine.

Patrick O’Donoghue, 22, of Wharf Road, Wormley, failed to comply with the order made by Southend Magistrates’ Court on October 30 as he walked off the site on January 7, and failed to turn up for unpaid work on February 11, Stevenage Magistrates’ Court heard.

He did not provide acceptable evidence of reasons for the breaches within five working days and admitted the breach on March 8 and was fined £150. The community order continues.

A MAN who assaulted and obstructed a police officer has been handed unpaid work.

William Keune, of Tenterfields, Pitsea, intentionally obstructed the police offer and assaulted him when stopped in Westminster on February 13.

The 23-year-old admitted common assault of an emergency worker and obstructing a police constable.

He was ordered to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work within the next year at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Monday.

Keune must also pay prosecution costs of £85 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £114.

A DRIVER found with overly-tinted windows has been hit with a large fine.

Wale Edeh, of Larkswood Road, Corringham, was driving his Mercedes in Martin Way, Merton, when it was found his windows only allowed for the transmission of 70 per cent of light. The amount required by legislation is 75 per cent.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates' Court on March 13.

The 40-year-old has now been ordered to pay a fine of £220.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £88.
