In just a few weeks, thousands of keen runners will head to the streets of London to take part in one of the biggest sporting events of the year, the London Marathon.

Runners will have been preparing for months as they ready themselves to take part while raising thousands of pounds for charities.

Last year (2023) saw the London Marathon return to its usual slot of April after its normal schedule was forced to change due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Covid-19 pandemic saw the marathon move from April to October, seeing runners face autumnal weather rather than the normal spring conditions.

But now, the London Marathon is back in April and it's only a few weeks away, so whether you're running the 26 miles or heading down to show you're support, find out when the London Marathon will be taking place.

When is the London Marathon 2024?

The 2024 London Marathon will be taking place on Sunday, April 21.

As the marathon organisers share: "The London Marathon first took place in 1981 and has become one of the most popular marathons in the world. The route takes in many of London's best landmarks including Buckingham Palace, The Cutty Sark, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf."

The London marathon is set to kick off at 9.30am and will last all day across the capital.

Ballots for the marathon have now closed but if you want to take part you can still do so with a charity place or enter the virtual London Marathon.
