AS the days get longer, the weather gets brighter, and the kids start thinking about the summer holidays, here are five great places to take the family in Southend.
1. Escape Live Southend - Escape Rooms
Rated five stars on Tripadvisor, Escape Live on the High Street is the perfect challenge for families wanting to team up and put their codebreaking and lateral thinking skills to the test.
Participants have 60 minutes to complete a mountain of puzzles and mysteries. The aim is simple: get out before it's too late.
The firm is "proud" to be rated by Tripadvisor as the "No.1 fun thing to do in Essex".
Reviewer Deepti B said: "We went in a family group of six, aged from eight to 45, and did the pirate-themed room.
"It was a fantastic challenge, enjoyed by all. Even the youngest was able to contribute."
2. Caddies Southend
Billed as "even crazier" than crazy golf, Caddies on London Road features two unique nine-hole courses with challenging obstacles and interactive features.
Caddies threw open its doors seven years ago as a crazy golf bar but has expanded its offering since with the likes of shuffle board, a huge illuminated ball pit and comedy nights.
Now, its latest attraction has opened in the form of “battle bumper cars” – a twist on the classic fairground staple that offers interactive scoring, power boosters and team-based games.
It is rated 4.5 stars on Tripadvisor, as a close runner-up behind Escape Live as the second-highest rated "fun and games" activity in the city.
Reviewer Alfie P said: "The kids absolutely loved the ball pit, then the golf and pool. The staff behind the bar were amazing. They were very friendly and accommodating.
"I think it’s my kids' new favourite venue."
3. Adventure Island
Claimed to be the "UK's number one free admission fun park", Adventure Island is a popular destination for families visiting Southend.
Situated on Western Esplanade, the park boasts more than 40 rides and attractions including the "outrageous" Rage roller coaster.

Reviewer Leanne described it as "a great day out".
She added: "We got on virtually every ride. Even when the queues looked longer, they didn't take long to go down.
"The food was really good. We went to the diner, where they have live singers, and they invited some of the kids onto the mini stage to dance. My daughter was straight up there, having a wonderful time.
"The absolute stand out for me was the staff. All the ride attendants were so happy and friendly, and made every ride enjoyable by doing funny dances and giving out high fives."
4. Happidrome Arcade
This traditional seafront amusement arcade is packed with slot machines, video games, and fun for the whole family.
It also serves a range of hot food and drink - along with a dedicated donut and ice cream parlour.
