A QUIRKY food pop-up selling fried chicken out of a repurposed shipping container is set to put down permanent roots in Eastwood after seeing “incredible success”.
Nugs, which has been serving fried chicken nuggets with a range of sauces from their shipping container in Progress Road for the past three weeks, will be looking for a permanent location come September.
Reis Esiroglu, who started Nugs with his wife Charlie Fairbrother, said crowds have stretched for hours to get a taste.
The couple have been blown away by the success and support of the community in making the pop-up a massive success and they saw their “busiest week” last week.
Nugs will now be extending its pop-up to June 30 so everyone can get a chance to visit before the business takes a hiatus to ensure it can make its current success a permanent fixture.
Reis said: “The queues have been absolutely crazy, and we cannot thank the people of Leigh and Eastwood enough.
“It has been like a festival in terms of the business, which has been tough as every time we get to grips with the amount of attention one week, we are forced to deal with more dilemmas as a result of so many people the next week.
“We keep getting busier and we are breaking our own records every week. Seeing how much people have enjoyed our food is what has made us able to get through the work load.
“Last week was the busiest week we have ever had as a business and we still haven’t had any bad reviews. You’d expect that at this point but we are genuinely shocked.”
Reis added that a highlight of the time spent in Leigh has been helping customers with coeliac disease and other gluten intolerances be able to enjoy takeaways again, something many miss.
He said: “We’ve been told by people that they haven’t been able to eat fried chicken for years, and it has almost brought people to tears that they can simply enjoy a takeaway with no side effects.
“That is the thing we just love to see.”
