A PRE-SCHOOL where children “smile and laugh” with staff during play has been rated “good” as Ofsted notes its improvements.
Poppets Pre-School, in Little Wakering Road, Southend, has been rated “good” in all areas after an inspection on April 16.
The school was previously rated “requires improvement” but inspectors highlighted the positive changes that had been made.
In the report, published this week, it stated: “Children have formed strong bonds with staff, and they smile and laugh with them during play. Staff treat the children with kindness and respect and are good role models.
“Since the last inspection, the management committee has ensured that it has a secure knowledge of the requirements to ensure that all committee members are deemed suitable by Ofsted.
“Staff have high expectations for children's behaviour and have implemented positive behaviour strategies.
“When children need to be reminded about the rules, the reasons behind them are explained. This ensures that children understand why the rules are in place and learn how to self-regulate their behaviour.
“As a result, children know what is expected of them and are well behaved.”
At the time of the inspection, there were 28 pupils at the pre-school, aged between one and four.
The report added: “The manager is committed to providing high-quality care and education. Staff receive support through regular supervision and are offered regular training opportunities.
“Staff morale is high, and teamwork is effective. This means that children are cared for by happy and motivated staff.”
Safeguarding arrangements were also found to be effective.
A spokesman for Poppets Pre-School said: “We are all very pleased with the ‘good’ rating.
“Staff always work to a high-standard, and this was welcomed as recognition of all our hard work over the years.”
