AN impressive Spanish galleon that proved a hit with residents and tourists last year is returning to Southend Pier.

The 17th century tall ship replica, El Galeon, visited the world's longest pleasure pier last May and was a huge success with residents queueing up to get on board.

Many even called for it to become a regular attraction.

This floating museum has six decks brimming with exhibits and displays, and a huge open deck space of 320 square meters, offering plenty of things to see and do.

Now, thanks to huge demand, the galleon returns to Southend Pier from August 22 to August 28.

Matt Dent, Labour councillor responsible for culture, tourism, and business, said: "The return of the Galeón Andalucía is a wonderful addition to our summer events programme.

"It provides another chance for residents and visitors to step aboard a piece of history and learn about the fascinating voyages that shaped our world.

"We are delighted to host such a prestigious vessel at Southend Pier once again.”

The Galeón Andalucía is a replica of the ships Spain used during the Age of Discovery and for trading between Spain, America, and the Philippines.

These ships were part of the famous fleets of the Indies and played an important role in global maritime history.

Visitors can enjoy a self-guided walking tour, offering the freedom to wander the decks, interact with the crew members who live aboard, and explore dozens of interactive exhibits, videos, projections, and historical documents.
