A NEW traditional pie and mash shop has thrown open its doors to customers at Southend’s Victoria Shopping Centre.

Brickies Pie N Mash celebrated their grand opening yesterday after relocating to the High Street shopping centre from Hamstel Road, Southend

The business, run by Jonny Malone, has operated in Southend for two years and Jonny is confident of its growing even further by moving to the city centre. The opening day was a “great success” and Jonny is confident it will become a huge hit.

He said: “We moved here because I am ready to take the next step for the business.

“The area has a busy bus route, which will definitely help with bringing more customers in.

“The shopping centre offers easy access for everyone and it makes us more local to the Southend area.”

Jonny also added that the opening day was a “great success.”

“We were welcomed with open arms by the people at the Victoria Shopping Centre,” he added.

“We received a lot of business on our first day and everyone kept telling us about how much they missed the old pie and mash shop called ‘Cook’s’ that used to be here.

“People seemed really pleased that we have brought this kind of food back to the shopping centre.”

The Victoria Centre was bought by Southend Council in 2020 for a reported £10 million with the aim of providing opportunities for start-ups and relocating businesses.

Labour Southend councillor Ian Gilbert,  said it was “really pleasing” to see yet another shop get occupied at the shopping centre.

The shop was previously empty.

He said: “I believe the Victoria shopping centre has gone from strength to strength since being bought by the council.

“Its always really nice to see new businesses moving into the centre and every unit that comes back to use will benefit the community.”
