ORGANISERS of a "charity rave" have been left devastated after their event was cancelled at the 11th hour after concerns from police and council bosses.

My Love, an event planning company in Castle Point, organised a music event to mark their first birthday and raise cash for the Indee Rose Trust and the Man Up charity.

However, organisers Scott Evans, Micky Wood, and George Fitzgerald claim they were forced to scrap the event because of possible complaints to Essex Police and Castle Point Council about the nature of the music event.

Mr Evans said: “We are a registered company; we aren’t running anything illegal and every time we try to do something we reinvest as we are trying to attract people suffering with loneliness.

“We want people to stop being mum, dad or granddad and just have some fun, we are all grown-ups, and we want to give people freedom, I am 44, we are all in the same boat.”

The event was due to be held on Saturday at Concord Rangers FC, in Thames Road, Canvey.

Some proceeds of the event would have gone to the Indee Rose Trust, which supports children with brain and spinal tumours, and the Man Up charity, which supports men's mental health.

Despite the set back, Mr Evans is confident the company will be able to hold the celebration eventually.

He added: “We could just give-up, but we feel we need to carry-on, we are absolutely gutted, but the comeback is greater than the setback.

“For us, we just wanted to get everyone together to have a great day and a great evening of fun and laughter, we wanted to let people forget the strains and stresses of life.

“This is why we are massively on the promotion of that, music gives off endorphins and is the answer.”

A Castle Point Council spokesman said: "After discussions with the Police Licensing Officer and Council Licensing Officer it was confirmed that the event organisers did not hold, and had not contacted the council to apply for, licensing for the event.

"Therefore, the event could not go ahead on June 1."
