A MAN has been taken to hospital after being attacked by a group of men during a brawl in the street.

Residents living in Ambleside Drive, in Southend, spotted multiple police cars as well as ambulances after a fight in the street.

Essex Police confirmed that a man was taken to hospital for treatment after a “group of men” attacked him.

Ambleside Drive, which was once branded an “unofficial red-light district”, has long been plagued by problems with gangs, drug dealers and prostitution.

However, Essex Police were unable to confirmed whether the attack, on Friday night, was linked to previous issues.

No arrests have been made and an appeal has been launched for witnesses to come forward as a matter of urgency.

Martin Terry, Independent councillor responsible for community safety, said: “It is concerning to hear.

“One key priority for me is to address this. Violence and knife crime are key issues.

“It isn’t something residents want on their doorsteps. I feel we have seen a spike in violence post-Covid. People’s behaviours seem more aggressive, and so we need to do what we can as a community to change that.

“I hope any witnesses to the fight or anyone with information comes forward to the police.”

Despite being asked by the Echo, Essex Police was unable to confirm how many men where involved in the attack or if weapons were used.

In 2023, Essex Police upped its presence in the area after a spate of crimes.

A spokesman for Essex Police saod: “We were called to reports of a fight in Ambleside Drive, Southend at around 10.40pm on Friday, May 31.

“It was reported a group of men were assaulting another man.

“If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

“Please quote the crime reference number 42/84228/24.”

A spokesman for the East of England Ambulance Service added: “One ambulance was sent to Ambleside Drive, Southend of Sea on Friday night following reports of an assault.

“One man was transported to Southend University Hospital for further assessment and care.”
