OVERNIGHT closures in a major city centre road are among five new public notices across south Essex this week.

Chichester Road will see two closures from June 18 until June 20 while Network Rail carries out bridge maintenance.

The busy road will be closed northbound from its junction with Tylers Avenue from 10pm on June 18 until 6am on June 19.

It will then be closed southbound from its junction with Warrior Square from 10pm on June 19 until 6pm on June 20.

Southend Council is set to lease open space at Southchurch Park for an electric substation.

The council intends to grant a lease over 16 square metres of space for the substation on land at the Southchurch Park East car park in Lifstan Way.

Residents can view a plan showing the location of the land concerned at the council offices at Civic Centre or at southend.gov.uk/disposalofopenspaceland.

Any objections should be made in writing to the corporate property and asset management team leader at Southend Council or by email to assetmanagement-assetsandresources@southend.gov.uk by 4.30 pm on Friday, June 28.

A road stretching between Southend seafront and the city centre is set to be closed for more than a week.

Pier Hill will be shut from its junction with Marine Parade to its junction with Royal Mews from 8am on June 17 until 5pm on June 26.

Drivers will also be unable to enter Royal Mews from its junction with Pier Hill during this time, and the cycleway on Pier Hill will be closed.

This is while a new gas connection installation takes place.

A footpath through Belfairs Park will be shut while Openreach carries out works.

The path from Woodside through Belfairs Park to Eastwood Road North will be closed from 6am until 10am on Monday.

A public consultation has been launched on a proposal to merge an infant school and junior school in south Essex.

Essex County Council is proposing to amalgamate Buttsbury Infant School and Buttsbury Junior School, with effect from January 1 next year.

Parents, carers and other interested residents can submit comments on the proposal until Friday, June 14.
