Police have made an arrest after reports of a "man carrying an axe" on Canvey.

Officers made an arrest in less than ten minutes after getting reports of an offensive weapon in Lincoln Way, Canvey at 3.30pm yesterday.

The suspect left the area as officers headed to the scene, but they quickly identified a man fitting the description given by members of the public.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and an axe was found nearby.

Inspector Stuart Rawlings said: “I’d like to thank the officers in this case for their quick response to these reports.

“Their professionalism in this incident means a dangerous suspect has swiftly been taken into custody.”
