AVIATION fans will be treated to a unforgettable experience at Southend Airport on Father’s Day with the iconic Vulcan.

On June 16, 2024, from 10am to 4pm, visitors will have the chance to explore the Avro Vulcan XL426, a significant aircraft in British aviation history.

The event promises an engaging day for all ages with numerous exciting attractions.

Attendees will get an up-close view of the iconic XL426 and, for an additional fee, they can enter its cockpit.

They will be guided by knowledgeable volunteers sharing "fascinating stories about the aircraft's past."

This "rare opportunity" to sit in the cockpit of one of the most renowned bombers should not be missed.

Alongside the Vulcan tour, the event will also feature a display of classic cars, vintage military vehicles, and fire engines.

The 10th Essex Living History Group will be present with educational displays, while representatives from the Royal Artillery Association will provide insights into the association's past.

Music and entertainment will be aplenty with a live performance by the Rayleigh Brass Band.

For the Star Wars enthusiasts, characters from the franchise will also make appearances, offering fun photo opportunities and interactive experiences.

The Hangar Shop will be open for attendees looking to purchase Vulcan-themed souvenirs.

Whether it's clothing, books, model kits, or unique collectibles, there's something for everyone looking to remember this unique day.

General admission for the event is priced at £8 for adults, while children under 16 can enter for free, making it an affordable family outing.

Cockpit tours are also priced at £8 per person.

Tickets can be purchased at the gate or in advance online, while Vulcan Restoration Trust members can enjoy free entry and cockpit tours with their valid membership card.

The Avro Vulcan B2 – XL426 – entered service with the RAF in 1962 and was withdrawn from service in 1984.

It was flown to London Southend Airport for preservation in 1986, and in 1993, the Vulcan Restoration Trust took charge and has since maintained the aircraft in full ground running condition.
