Detectives investigating a serious assault near a Tesco store in south Essex have issued an appeal for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
The assault took place in the area of Grange Parade, Billericay at around 3.20pm on Tuesday.
It was reported two men had been involved in a row at a Tesco Express in the area.
A short time later, on a field near the shop, one of the men was struck with an item, believed to be a metal pole, and left with serious injuries.
He has received hospital treatment and his injuries are not life-threatening.
