ARMED police descended on a south Essex street after reports of armed men fighting with weapons.

Officers were called to Argent Street in Grays at around 7pm yesterday following the reports of a disturbance.

Witnesses reported a group of men fighting armed with weapons. Armed officers were deployed following claims of a firearm being seen. 

The group were located on Thames Road and a man was found with minor injuries.

A weapon, believed to be an air pistol was discovered and seized by officers. 

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault and remains in custody.
