CREWS are tackling a burst water main which is causing the road to flood at a Benfleet junction.

A water main has burst at the junction of Kents Hill Road and High Road, in Benfleet.

Andrew Sheldon, Essex County Council councillor responsible for South Benfleet, has urged residents to avoid the area or allow extra time for journeys.

He adds that Essex and Suffolk Water are now on site dealing with the situation.

Mr Sheldon said: "Burst water main at the junction of Kents Hill Road and High Road, in Benfleet.

"Essex and Suffolk Water crew on site. Likely three-way lights to be set up.

"Please avoid or allow extra time for journeys.

"I have spoken to Essex and Suffolk Water this morning and they have a crew on site.

"They are currently waiting for the traffic management contractor to arrive to set up the barriers and lights so they can begin to dig to get to the main.

"I will monitor the works throughout give updates when I have them."
