A SOUTHEND school has been praised for creating a “happy, calm and warm” environment for children to learn as it was rated “good” by Ofsted inspectors.
Porters Grange Primary School and Nursery, in Lancaster Gardens, Southend, has retained its rating and has been rated “good” in all areas after an inspection on May 8 and 9.
Inspectors acknowledged the outstanding ethos of the school as they praised pupils, teachers and staff.
The school was last inspected in 2018 when it was also rated as “good” - the second highest possible Ofsted rating.
In the report inspectors said: “Pupils are polite and responsible.
“Their views about school life are listened to. They contribute well to the school’s happy, calm and warm ethos.
“Pupils enjoy school. They like each other’s company and are respectful of the differences between them.”
The report also praised the pupils for their behaviour during break times.
It stated: “Pupils play happily with their friends at break times. They join in with the many activities available.
“They learn well, work hard and listen to the adults that support them.”
The school, which champions high expectations, was lauded for its nurturing atmosphere.
The report stated: “Relationships in school are very positive and caring.
“ Pupils know the routines for behaviour in school. They respect these rules. As a result, pupils behave well.”
“Pupils feel safe. They understand how to keep themselves safe, particularly when working online.
“They know that adults in school are there to help and support them. Pupils are confident that staff will intervene if they have any concerns.”
At the time of the inspection, there were 415 pupils at the school, all aged between three and 11.
On the rating, Debbie Henley, school principal, said: “I am delighted that the inspectors recognised the dedication and hard work of our staff who make Porters Grange such a positive experience for our children.
“Our relentless pursuit of consistently good teaching lies at the heart of all we do.
“I feel so proud of our children who were commended for being polite and responsible and contributing well to the school’s happy, calm and warm ethos.”
