A drink driver caught on a major south Essex road and a motorist fined for idling are among 10 residents or visitors in south Essex who have been sentenced at magistrates' courts in recent weeks.

A DRINK driver caught behind the wheel on the A127 has been handed unpaid work.

Cameron Lettin, 25, was found driving on the major road in Benfleet with 115 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood on July 9 last year. The limit is 80.

Lettin, of Elmgrove Crescent, Harrow, had also been driving while disqualified and without insurance. He was caught driving without due care and attention on the A130.

He admitted all charges and was ordered to take part in 100 hours of unpaid work at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday. The Audi driver has also been banned from driving for a year, must pay prosecution costs of £85 and a £114 surcharge.


A LEARNER driver found behind the wheel without insurance or a qualified driver has been ordered to pay almost £1,000.

Augustine Anyaene, of Portman Drive, Billericay, was driving a Vauxhall Astra in Hornchurch when he was found without insurance on December 29, Bromley Magistrates’ Court heard.

The 59-year-old provisional licence holder was not displaying L plates and was unsupervised.

He admitted both offences via the single justice procedure and must now pay a £586 fine, a surcharge of £234 and costs of £110. His driving record was endorsed with six points.


A BMW driver caught behind the wheel with THC in his system has been banned from the roads.

Calin Scafaru, of London Road, Bowers Gifford, was driving in Giffords Cross Road on October 12, 2022, when he was found with a proportion of the principal psychoactive constituent of cannabis in his blood which was above the limit of 2 micrograms per litre of blood.

The 32-year-old admitted the offence at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court last Friday and was banned from driving for a year.

He must also pay a £350 fine, prosecution costs of £100 and a surcharge to fund victim services of £140.


A DRIVER caught speeding above 100 miles per hour must pay out £1,300.

Jason Reynolds, of Woodgrange Drive, Southend, was behind the wheel of a Mercedes on the M1 in Northampton when he was found going at 106mph on October 1 last year. The limit is 70.

The 35-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure and appeared at Wellingborough Magistrates’ Court last Friday.

He was fined £853, banned for two weeks, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £341 and prosecution costs of £110.


A WOMAN who failed to hand evidence to police has been banned from the roads for half a year.

Joanne Hibbert, 60, did not give information to the chief officer of police in Billericay relating to the identification of a Ford driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on April 17 last year.

Hibbert, of Toll Bar Road, Marston, admitted the offence via the single justice procedure.

She appeared at Colchester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 30, where she was banned from driving for six months and fined £184.

Hibbert must also pay a £74 surcharge and £110 costs.


A DRIVER who ignored a public spaces protection order as he left his engine idle has been slapped with a fine.

Abdullah Amour, of Maya Close, Shoebury, failed to comply with the order on October 27 last year when he left his engine idle while he was parked in Sipson Road, West Drayton.

The 54-year-old admitted the offence via the single justice procedure last Monday.

Amour was handed a fine of £146 at Ealing Magistrates’ Court.

He must also pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £58 and prosecution costs of £104.


A MAN who failed to identify a van driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence has been banned from the roads for half a year.

Michael Sullivan, of Tyler Avenue, Laindon, failed to give information to the chief officer of police for Devon and Cornwall relating to the identification of a Ford Transit driver alleged to have been guilty of an offence on July 19 last year.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure and Sullivan appeared at Bodmin Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday where he was banned from driving for six months.

The 34-year-old was also fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge to fund victim services of £264 and prosecution costs of £90.


A MAN who failed to hand evidence over to police has been handed a large fine.

Falcon Dannis, of London Road, Westcliff, did not give information when required by the Chief Officer of Metropolitan Police relating to the identification of a Mercedes driver who was alleged to have been guilty of an offence on January 18.

The offence was proved via the single justice procedure at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court last Monday.

Dannis has been hit with a £660 fine, as well as a surcharge to fund victim services of £264 and prosecution costs of £90.


A DRIVER caught speeding close to Basildon railway station has been slapped with a fine.

Charlie Georgiou, 28, was behind the wheel of a Land Rover Freelander in Nethermayne’s junction with Ashdon Way when he was found at a speed above the 30 miles per hour limit on October 12.

Georgiou, of Nathans Lane, Edney Common, Chelmsford, admitted the speeding offence at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, May 30.

He must now pay a fine of £40 and his driving record was endorsed with three penalty points


A LEARNER driver who was caught behind the wheel without insurance has been hit with a large fine.

Leonard Willsher, 29, of Finches Chase, Basildon, was driving a Ford in Freemasons Road, Canning Town on Christmas Eve last year when he was found without insurance covering the car.

He was also driving unsupervised and without L plates, with a provisional licence. The offences were proved via the single justice procedure at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on June 7.

Willsher was fined £660, ordered to pay a surcharge of £264 and costs of £110.
