SOUTHEND’S new Wendy’s is preparing to throw open its doors to customers with the team "raring to go" ahead of next week’s grand opening.

The American fast food giant will be bringing their famous burgers to Southend High Street next Friday and the Echo was invited inside today for a sneak peak and to meet manager Matthew Muldowney.

The famous logo has already begun catching the attention of people and the former Ponden Interiors shop - just a few doors away from McDonald’s - has been kitted out with a new kitchen, 130 seats, and an eye-catching “We Love Southend” sign.

Matthew said his team are ready to go and looking forward to welcoming customers.

He said: “We have had so much interest so far. All day people have been coming up and asking when we’re open and about our menu.

“They can’t wait to try it and we can’t wait to welcome them in next Friday. We’re super excited.

"We started preparing for this a long time ago and a lot of work has gone into it. To see that all come together in the end is really special.

"I think this place is going to be really popular in what is a great high street. I can see us going from strength to strength.

"I would urge everyone to come and try us out and see what a difference fresh food makes to your lunch."

Anticipation has already started to build among locals with many eager to try out the new eatery.

Josh Lemmer, a frequenter of the high street, said: "I've never had a Wendy's before so I can't wait to try it out.

"Hopefully it's as good as it looks. It's nice to have a few more food options on the high street."

Another local, Katie Bridget, added: "I've tried the one in London and hopefully this one is as good, if not better.

"I'll definitely be coming down on opening day."

The fast food chain will also be offering customers the chance to win special prizes on their opening day and will be giving out free Dave singles burgers to the first 30 people to come through the doors.

Located just two doors down from McDonald's, the new Wendy's can seat 130 people and will look to become the premier fast food restaurant in town.
