From the countless memories made to mouth-watering aromas, some restaurants are more than just a place to eat.

Over the years, many much-loved restaurants, which were once integral parts of the south Essex community, have closed their doors for good.

This week, we asked Echo Facebook users what is a closed restaurant that they miss.

Here are some of the restaurants and eateries mentioned by you.

Chloe Paige Chapman, Helen Stow, and Dave Knott all fondly mentioned "Simply Blues in Leigh".

Simply Blues in Leigh was an American themed cafe which sadly closed down in March 2018 after more than three decades of trading.

The cafe had been open since 1982 and was at the heart of the community.

Grandy Ashcroft misses "The Old Vienna" while Ms Ballard mourned "Panchos Cantina, Westcliff".

The Old Vienna The Eastwood Road restaurant shut down in 2016 after reports that bosses were accused of flouting hygiene rules. It has since fallen into a disrepair following the closure eight years ago.

Panchos Cantina, Westcliff, was a popular Mexican restaurant which closed in 2018 after a successful 25 years of business.

The restaurant was well-known for its cosy atmosphere, but closed as the owners were set to retire.

Other restaurants mentioned included The Cork and Cheese, in Southend, and Macaroni Grill in Basildon.

Colin Taylor mentioned Renouf’s in Rochford, and Leanna Page said Chariots in Basildon.
