TWO bikers are fighting for their lives after a serious motorbike crash near a Southend industrial estate.

Police were called to the serious crash between two motorcycles at 11pm on Saturday night in Journeymans Way, on the edge of the Temple Farm Industrial Estate.

Emergency services have confirmed two men have been left with life-threatening injuries following the incident. They remain in hospital in a critical condition.

Martin Terry, councillor responsible for community safety at Southend Council, said: “I do hope these two motorcyclists make a full recovery as quickly as possible.”

He added: “At a recent police and crime panel meeting which I attended on behalf of the city council, it was highlighted that the deaths and injuries on Essex roads are far too high.

“I fully support the police and crime panel at the police, fire and crime commissioner in putting more resources into Essex roads policing so we can get our roads to be safer.

“During the police cuts many years ago Essex roads policing was decimated. But the Police and Crime Commissioner is seeking to repair that damage now by putting more resources into it, which is very much needed.

“There are far too many serious incidents on our roads, so anything we can do to work with the police to improve things I’ll put my full weight behind it.”

An Essex Police spokesman said: “We are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time, who may have witnessed the incident, to come forward.

“Anyone with information or footage which could assist our investigation should contact us as soon as possible.

“Please quote incident 1437 of 6 July.”
